IOM Return and Reintegration Projects for Victims of Trafficking

IOM’s counter-trafficking projects are offering return and reintegration assistance to victims of trafficking identified in the UK. The projects vary slightly but generally provide pre-departure assistance (arrangement and payment of return travel and travel documents), travel assistance in the UK and country of destination through to short and long term assistance including accommodation and psychosocial support.

They also offer ad hoc return and reintegration assistance to victims of trafficking wishing to voluntarily return to other countries both EEA and Non-EU. IOM’s country offices have well established connections with local NGOs so please do get in contact if you have an enquiry regarding return and reintegration assistance to a country that is not included on the list.

It is highlighted that to receive support through these projects the victim of trafficking does not necessarily need to have a positive Conclusive Grounds decision. In some cases a statement from the police or supporting NGO stating that they believe the individual to be a victim of trafficking is sufficient to receive support through these projects – each case is reviewed individually and decisions made on a case by case basis.

Before assisting in the return of a victim of trafficking IOM complete a risk management assessment and plan (if necessary) coordinating with IOM country offices, NGOs and law enforcement in both the UK and country of destination. The process can take between a few days and a couple of weeks to complete. Unfortunately IOM are unable to assist in the provision of support in the UK pre-return or during the NRM decision making stages.
