Councils have a key role to play in tackling modern slavery and the Local Government Association’s new workshops will provide support to councils in identifying and supporting victims and working in partnership. The workshops will provide practical examples of work that has been undertaken already and members will hear from experts in their field about tackling the issue.
Modern slavery is a shocking crime, often hidden in plain sight in the businesses that we use and in the homes that we live next door to. There are more than 40 million people in modern slavery across the world now, with up to 13,000 in the UK. The Government has called it the “gravest human rights abuse of our time”.
The workshops are being run across the UK in 2018:
London – 17 January 2018
Newcastle – 25 January 2018
Manchester – 31 January 2018
Bristol – 27 February 2018
Nottingham – 7 March 2018
Free to all councils
